Faced with financial difficulties, the daily Les Nouvelles calédoniennes will only be distributed in digital form.
The newspaper is facing “a constant drop in circulation, a doubling of the price of paper and a collapse in the advertising market”, Yves Delauw, managing director of the Melchior group, owner of Les Nouvelles calédoniennes, told Agence France-Presse.
Digital during the week and paper at the weekend
The daily will be available in digital form from Monday to Friday. “However, we will expand our offer with an ambitious weekly magazine that will be delivered each week to our subscribers’ mailboxes and to most of our current outlets,” said Delauw. Le Monde, the French newspaper of reference, explains that the Caledonian newspaper has not found investors, neither in Caledonia nor in mainland France. This new strategy will lead to the closure of one of the two printing plants of the Melchior group, which also owns a radio station, a free newspaper and magazines.
