A government press release stated, on August 8, that the 23rd person to be tested positive for Covid-19 was an individual travelling alone and was alone in his room.
This new case was diagnosed at the end of the mandatory fortnight in one of the government-requisitioned hotels in Noumea, the capital city.
This individual has been hospitalized in the Covid-19 of the Médipôle, the main hospital of Noumea.
No local case
To date, all 23 Covid-19 cases diagnosed in New Caledonia have been imported and none triggered any transmission in the local community.
The island borders are closed to foreign travellers but access is granted for returning residents and some administrative personnel from France.
