Wallis and Futuna and the University of New Caledonia signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday 11 January 2022 for the next three years.
An agreement relating to the training and learning of Wallisian and Futunian languages was signed on 11 January 2022 between the territory and the University of New Caledonia. From the beginning of the next academic year, the University of New Caledonia will host the first class of the university diploma in Wallisian and Futunian languages. This diploma concerns teachers from Wallis and Futuna. The official language of Wallis and Futuna is French, but the vernacular languages are very much alive. The public television channel, Wallis la Première, broadcasts its daily news in French and in the vernacular.
