The appeal trial of Dr Olivier Peres began this Monday 3 April. The former head of the hospital’s orthopaedic department is accused of murdering his neighbour in September 2018 on the Tina golf course in Noumea. In March last year, the 65-year-old doctor was sentenced by the Assize Court to 20 years in prison. This story made a lot of noise in Caledonia. It concerns a very well-known doctor. He does not deny the facts, but he believes that he acted in self-defence. The two men were friends.
