The omicron variant may have already arrived in French Polynesia. About ten samples are currently being analysed. This evolution of the virus would not be more dangerous than the previous ones, but it is much more contagious. The measures to protect oneself from serious forms of the disease remain the same: mask, vaccination and respect of barrier gestures. For the moment, New Caledonia and Wallis and Futuna are still free of the South African variant.
