It includes New Caledonia and New Zealand
A few years ago, scientists discovered that the planet had an eighth continent.
Almost all (95%) of its 4.9 million square kilometres is now underwater, with the exception of New Zealand, New Caledonia and the surrounding islands. There has never been a precise map of this continent. Now there is. The map can be seen in the journal of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
A continent for Caledonia
The team from New Zealand’s GNS Science Institute collected different types of rock dated to different eras. Analysis of these samples has provided a great deal of information about the geological composition of the northern part of the continent. The southern part is already known.
So New Zealand and New Caledonia share a common continent. This should create links…
